Tea-light holder – Obtain decorative glass beads in a color, or multiple colors of your choice. These can be found at most craft stores or ordered online. Fill the Mason jar about one-third of the way with the beads, then place a battery-powered tea light on top. Battery powered tea lights are preferable to an open flame, they will not drip wax, and they are also cost-effective because they will last much longer than wax tea lights.
Colored vases – Mason jars can be used as vases for real or faux flowers. To add even more flair to this decoration, fill the jar nearly to the top with water, then before adding the flowers, tint the water with just a drop or two of food coloring. For example, just one or two drops of red food coloring can produce a pretty pink shade that will make it look as though the Mason jar itself is tinted pink. You can change what colors you use, or even mix colors to create new ones, depending on the time of year or occasion you are decorating for.
Beach décor – Since we do live in Florida, many PepperTree residents enjoy adding beach-themed décor to their apartments. Fill one-third of the jar with sand, then add seashells, small starfish, sand dollars, or any other items one might find on a beach. These items can be purchased, or can be picked up off a beach by hand!
