Caring for the Garbage Disposals in our Apartments Near The Villages, FL

In the well-appointed kitchens of the PepperTree Apartment Homes, in addition to spacious pantries, large refrigerators with ice makers, and oversized maple or oak kitchen cabinets, our residents also enjoy the use of a garbage disposal. These can be very handy for disposing of food substances in the sink, but it’s also important for our residents to remember some basic care when using these devices, including:

• Never stick your fingers down the drain to pull out foods that have become clogged. Make sure the disposer is off, then use pliers or tongs.

• Rid the disposer of bad smells by cutting a lemon into small pieces, and rinsing the pieces through the disposal with warm (not hot) water as the lemons are grinded up

• Do not pour fats, such as bacon grease, down the drain as these will clog the disposer. Pouring hot water to clear up a clog caused by fats will make the clog even worse.

• Clean the disposal by filling it with ice cubes and rock salt, run the water, then turn the disposal on for a few seconds. You can also make ice cubes out of vinegar for more cleaning power.
