Indoor Plants that Don’t Need Direct Sunlight

One of the trickiest parts about having indoor plants is determining how much sunlight they need. Many people find themselves moving their plants to certain areas of their home in order to ensure they receive direct sunlight, only to move them back because too much sunlight can be bad for some plants. That’s why having indoor plants that don’t require direct sunlight is so convenient. All they need in order to thrive is to be watered and placed near a window, glass door, or other area that receives at least some light during the day.

Here are some common plants that can grow without direct sunlight and add a touch of nature to any space:

  • Maidenhair ferns – These plants have delicate, small leaves. They should be kept in a well-lighted area and a warm location. Since they thrive in humid environments, it’s recommended that, in addition to being regularly watered, they be misted with warm water in the mornings.
  • Parlor palms – People who like the look of palm trees will no doubt enjoy these plants. Requiring even less effort to grow than the maidenhair fern, parlor palm trees thrive even in low light and can be watered sparingly. To avoid overwatering, the soil should be fully dry before the plant is watered again. While receiving very little light can cause parlor palms to grow at a slower pace, when full-grown, they typically reach a height of around 3 or 4 feet.
  • Philodendrons – Distinguished by their heart-shaped leaves, these plants can adapt to areas with either low or bright lighting. Although they’re relatively low-maintenance, it’s recommended that philodendrons be fed with liquid house plant fertilizer in the spring and mid-summer.

As long as residents are careful to protect their flooring from moisture and dirt, these plants could make a wonderful addition to any of our apartments near The Villages, FL. To learn about our community and the many amenities we offer, contact PepperTree Apartment Homes today.
