Two Delicious Low-Carb Replacements for High-Carb Foods
Anyone looking to add more vegetables to their diet will be glad to know that many typical carb loaded foods can be replaced with vegetables. Carbohydrates provide individuals with energy that allows them to get through the day feeling fuller and more alert. However, not all carbs are created equal, and foods like white rice or pasta can lack important nutrients. However, there is good news: many high-carb foods have vegetable counterparts. Here are two of those foods, and the low-carb veggies you can replace them with:
- Pizza dough – While pizza is loved by countless people, it is oftentimes classified as junk food. For a healthier dish, consider making cauliflower pizza dough. In order to do this, break cauliflower into florets and run through a food processor until it is completely broken down, almost resembling couscous. Then, steam the cauliflower, drain, and combine with any desired seasonings. Lastly, spread the mixture into a circle on a baking pan and bake at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes. Add any desired toppings and bake for an extra 10 minutes.
- Spaghetti – Zucchini pasta is a health-conscious replacement for spaghetti. All that’s needed to create this simple, low-carb dish is a food spiralizer. Simply run one or two zucchinis through a spiralizer to create long, thin strips of the vegetable. Then, simply sauté in a pan with any desired sauce and seasonings. The zucchini should be cooked for about 5 to 7 minutes, or until it’s softened.
