How to Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes, most often in the summer time, can be a real nuisance for people who want to spend time outside, especially after the sun goes down. With over 90 species of mosquitoes found in just Florida alone, these tiny and hard-to-see animals will land on you and pierce your skin, leaving your skin itchy and irritated. They are also known to carry and spread a variety of diseases. To help prevent mosquitoes from biting you, follow these tips:
-
Wear a repellent that is registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and contains at least one of the following ingredients: DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus, para-menthane-diol, or 2-undecanone.
-
Wear long sleeve shirts and pants when outside, especially at night.
-
Avoid areas that have standing water, this is where mosquitoes tend to be around the most because that is where they like to lay their eggs.
-
Stay indoors or in a protected screened-in area. Although this is not ideal and is not always possible, this is the best way that you can protect yourself from mosquitoes.
