However, even the best smoke alarms may break or run out of battery power, so it’s always a good idea to test your alarm periodically in order to ensure that you and your loved ones are protected.

All you have to do to test your smoke alarm at your PepperTree apartment home is follow these simple steps:

• Have a friend or family member stand inside your apartment home as far as possible from your alarm to ensure that it can be heard throughout your unit.

• Stand on a sturdy support or ladder and press the alarm’s test button for a few seconds. The alarm should emit a shrill beep if it is working properly.

• To test how the alarm responds to smoke, you can spray a special alarm test aerosol near the alarm. This specialized spray mimics smoke, and should trigger your alarm much like real smoke would.

• If the alarm is in good working condition after being exposed to this spray, it may go off for quite a long time. In order to silence the alarm, use a handheld vacuum to remove the aerosol spray from the area around your smoke alarm.
